Sallets zoals deze werden overal in Europa gedragen. Ze waren zeer populair omdat ze een optimaal gezichtsveld en gehoor boden, in tegenstelling tot de gesloten sallet. Ze staan o. a. afgebeeld op het zilveren altaarstuk van Pistoia. Vanaf ongeveer 1419 werden ze ook in Frankrijk gedragen, waarna ze vanaf 1425 in Duitsland en Oostenrijk en in 1431 in Engeland werden gebruikt. Dit type sallet was
